“ Out beyond the ideas of wrong doing and right doing, there is a field. I will meet you there.”*

These words of Rumi, in a nutshell captures the essence of Ashish Dubey’ s work, in particular the suite of photographs on view at The Mint {January 17 - February 5th, 2009}, entitled ‘ THE SONG OF THE REED’.

His work with its strong yet delicate graphic quality is a soulful and evocative rendition of nature in serene repose – calm before the storm or after, is a matter of the viewer’s perception and interpretation. It is a gentle, yet insistent beckoning into a mind space of timelessness and spirituality.

Amidst a world turning sullen and tempestuous, this marshy expanse is a haven of peace, a place of rest for the weary soul. It is not so much the subject captured, but were it transports you, which makes it a stirring journey into the great unknown- beyond, words, images and materiality – a space resonating with grace, a space that is sacred, divine and poignant. It is an engagement with infinity beyond the vanishing point.
